Mackenzie the Landmark Lifetime Member

Mackenzie got her first commendation from the IAS, for becoming a Lifetime Member of the International Association of Scientologists at the 25th Anniversary of the IAS. She was a bit overwhelmed at all of the people clapping for her so wasn’t at her tippety top bubbliest, but certainly liked the idea of playing with & drooling on the fancy pin she got!

Thanks to @eringravitt for taking the photo. I unkindly just flung my camera into her hands as we went up to get the award, and unfortunately the settings were all messed up so the photo was taken with bizzarre flash & exposure settings making it look like we were getting an award in the Bat Cave. However, Adobe Camera Raw came to the rescue and luckily it came out looking just dandy.

However, what I failed to get a picture of was the lovely way that the banquet hall was set up at the Founding Church.   The new building of the DC Church of Scientology has a great chapel which was designed as a multifunction room, so that it could be set up for church services, and then reconfigured to host a swanky banquet like was held at this occasion.  It was really quite nice, and just highlighted for me the outstanding attention to detail of this building.

Day 105 | The Baby’s First Snow!

Mackenzie had her first snow today!  We had snow yesterday starting at around 9am, and lasting most of the day.  Only trouble was that the air temperature was around 33°F all day, so we didn’t get more than about 1-2 inches of accumulation.  But still – it was plenty to be able to get outside and experience the snow a bit!

Day 85 | Mackenzie at the Scientology VM Tent

Today I went down to the Scientology Volunteer Ministers Tent to volunteer for a while helping people with their day-to-day problems. Mackenzie was on full-time duty cheering everybody up, and was all smiles & chuckles to anyone who came near us. It wasn’t until the end of the day when they started breaking up the tent that I got the idea to take a photo, and at that point she finally decided to pass out.

It was a great day though.   Totally awesome weather for a 15th of November (something like 68°F all day & sunny) and we got to help a whole bunch of people with solutions to day-to-day problems in their lives.   While I was there we helped several people relieve stress in their day with some Scientology Assists, and some other couples improve their relationships with each other with some on-the-spot training in communication techniques.

Of course, Mackenzie was a big help, as sometimes all people need is a friendly face to help brighten their day up, and that’s something Mackenzie can provide in spades!  🙂

Sorry for the out-of-order post, but this past weekend has been just an absolute flurry of activity with the opening of the new Founding Church of Scientology in Washington, D.C..  In addition to being arguably the most important Church of Scientology in the western hemisphere, it also happens to be my local church, so my wife & I have been down there pitching, helping with as many parts of the opening event as we could.   And with the pre-event preps, the opening on Saturday, and all of the post-event flurry over the last 2 days, yes – it’s only now that I’m getting to write about it.

The event itself was outstanding (as you can see above from the ribbon cutting).  Tons of Scientologists and non-Scientologists came in from all over, and I got to reconnect with tons of old friends who hadn’t seen me since we had the baby.   The speakers were great, especially Mr. David Miscavige‘s speech dedicating the building.  He quite concisely stated why the building is so important, but also what’s so important about all of us now making full use of the building to bring solutions & help to the people & politicians of the area.

We of course brought Mackenzie to the event, dressed for warm weather, and strapped to my chest on the BabyBjorn – despite the fact that I was wearing a suit.   She just loved the event.  She insisted on being front-facing and able to see the speakers when the event was happening, and then toured the building with Kat & I.  Out of the 7 massive floors of the new building, she stayed wide-awake for 5 of them, smiling & giggling and meeting approximately 1000 effusive guests along the way.   At 1001 though, she hit “people overload” and just fell straight asleep.

That worked out fine, as Kat & I were then able to tour the rest of the building & meet tons more people who got a chance to see a cute, sleeping baby.   Boy, that new church is big.  But more significant than its size is the sheer number of different areas where it’s set up to help people.  There are training rooms, seminar spaces, places to educate people about human rights and the dangers of drugs, and it just goes on and on.   Lastly, of course, there was the Chapel – where I’m excited to be able to have the naming ceremony for our daughter sometime soon.  Who knows, maybe we can be the first naming ceremony there!

Day 51 | Bundled up for a Car Ride

Mackenzie all bundled up so she can get to and from the car in comfort.  Mommy was downtown helping at the Founding Church, and it’s down to around 46° all day today.  So we had to get her prepped, as its’ starting to get on the chillier side!

Day 42 | Baby Blue Eyes in the Back Yard

As Kat & I were enjoying the fall leaves changing their color in the back yard, Mackenzie was making so many cute poses I thought we were on a photo shoot.  More back yard pictures from that photo shoot are here.
